Craps in its online and land-based casino variations is a game of chance played with a pair of dice. A player wagers on the outcome of a dice roll and either wins or loses with different probabilities depending on a bet type. At the first glance of the craps table, the game looks complex and abstruse but in fact this is a fairly simple table game that has only a small number of basic bets that a player needs to learn, e.g., Pass Line and Don’t Pass. It is worthwhile noting that craps features over 30 minor or additional bets that should be mastered in due course to increase the chances of leaving the table a winner. Sure there are no tricks or strategies to beat the house edge but experienced players can maximize their winning chances by placing proper bets and avoiding too risky betting options. Anyway, craps is a very enjoyable game that will make your day and can stand hundreds of hours of play.

Online craps made easy

Online craps tables may be arranged differently across game developers; however, they always have the same sections for main bets but these sections can be of different shapes and be located at different parts of the table.

Each round in craps is divided into two phases: the Come Out Roll and the Point. A round begins with the first roll, the Come Out Roll phase. Before it starts, players can place a bet on the Pass Line or Don’t Pass area. If after the first roll a 7 or 11 drops, all Pass Line bets win and Don’t Pass bets lose. And if 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, all Pass bets lose and Don’t Pass bets win (a 12, also known as Craps, is a tie that results in a push). Any of these outcomes ends the round – losing chips are taken away to the casino profit and winning chips are paid out to players.

If the come out roll is 4–9 or 10, that number becomes the point and the round proceeds to the second stage. A special marker is placed on the table to indicate the point. In the Point stage, the dice are rolled continuously until the point or 7 is rolled, and the round ends. As you can see, there is nothing overcomplicated about the game and novices can choose from a few basic bets even with a modest bankroll. On gaining a deeper knowledge of craps, you can try some of high odd bets that are riskier but add thrill and excitement to your playtime.

Bet types in craps

Bets are placed on corresponding areas on the craps table. To make a wager, the player needs to select one or more chip values by clicking on them and then click a desired bet section on the table. In most online craps variations, the areas where a bet can be accepted at a given stage are colored in green when hovering over them. Conversely, the areas where you cannot place chips at the moment (for example, the Come area during the Roll Out phase) turn red when hovered over with the mouse. Some bets feature a worse return than others, and you should lean toward the bets with lower house edge such as Pass/Don’t Pass with a 1.41% / 1.36% casino advantage, respectively. The list of bets that are offered in online craps is provided below.

Pass

This bet is placed before the come out roll on the area marked Pass Line. Payouts for this bet are 1 to 1 (even money) and the house edge is only 1.41%. If the first roll results in 7 or 11, the bet wins. If 2, 3 or 12 appears on the dice, the pass bet is lost. In case that any other number comes, Pass bets are not removed from the table – the round continues with the point number determined by that first roll. If any other roll in the second stage shows the point number, the Pass bet wins but if a 7 is rolled before the point number, you lose.

Don’t Pass

This bet is opposite to the Pass but its house edge is even lower, just 1.36%. If 2 or 3 is rolled out on the first stage, the bet wins. If 7 or 11 is rolled, the Don’t Pass bet is lost. In the event that any other number comes, the dice are then rolled for as long as a 7 appears – if so, the bet is won. If the point number comes, the bet is considered lost.

Come

This bet is accepted after the point number has been established. This is a basic bet that features the same house advantage as the Pass Line (1.41%) and pays even money if won. This bet type is almost identical to the Pass bet but is placed when the second phase is in progress. The roll that follows after you make the Come bet establishes a come out number personally for you, and in every subsequent roll the Pass bet rules apply. Here is an example: after placing your casino chips on the Come area, the next roll shows 4 and 5 (a total of 9). So nine becomes your point number and if a 9 is then rolled before a 7, you win. Your ‘personal’ point number is absolutely independent of the point number determined on the first phase.

Don’t Come

This bet is almost identical to Don’t Pass and is placed during the Point phase. The principles concerning a ‘personal’ point number work in the same was as in the Come bet but the Don’t Come wins if a 7 is rolled before the point number.

Other bets

There are also many other bets in online craps such as field bets, Hard Ways, Horn (Horn High), Any 7 and more. Some have a very high house advantage, for example, the Any 7 bet with a payout of 5 to 1 has a huge 16.7% house edge. Whatever it be, you can enjoy craps with just a few basic bets. As soon as you practice the game and gain confidence about the rules and a variety of bet types, you can try other betting options for the ultimate experience while at a craps table.
