Millennium Park Opening Ceremony

In celebration of Millennium Park’s Grand Opening Redmoon Theater
provided a large-scale illumination ceremony. Seventy performers dressed
in elegant earth toned kimonos processed into the park over the bridge
waving large white flags. The procession of flags was followed by
performers pushing large fire towers on wheels as well as performers
carrying beautiful hand crafted paper lanterns. An original composition,
by local musician Kevin O’Donnell, piped through the Pavilion’s sound
system. Upon arrival in the park, the performers broke into groups
surrounding the Cloud Gate sculpture. As the performers in each group
waved their white flags images from films projected by projectors hidden
in the fire towers landed on the material.
