THE MOMENTARY OPERA- OUR SUMMER GUERRILLA PERFORMANCE, IS WRAPPING UP ITS PUBLIC PERFORMANCE SEASON- see us tonight at Grant Park Movie Night, 7:30-8pm!
The Momentary Opera began as an experiment at Spectacle Lunatique (our fundraising gala), then was commissioned as a large scale work by The Chicago Department of the Environment and performed at The Merchandise Mart, Harold Washington Library, City Hall, and Daley Plaza for Earth Day 2009, 5000 people saw the Opera’s premiere. Following Earth Day, we presented the Opera at Chicago’s greatest art exposition, Art Chicago, which 2000 people witnessed. In Millennium Park, The Momentary Opera sang to the crowd gathered for Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me, 5000 people witnessed the song and celebration. For Whole Foods 5% Community Support Day, The Momentary Opera sang to shoppers at 5 Chicago locations, 3000 people saw our bombastic playfulness. We traveled the team to Eli’s Cheesecake Company and 500 cheesecake fans got the opera for desert. We performed at Daley Plaza Farmer’s Market for over 1000 downtown Chicagoan’s enjoying their lunch and bombastic entertainment. And we conclude the summer with two events, Grant Park Movie Night, our final public event, and Galapalooza, a private event for Lollapalloza. A good honest summer of art and oddness. A real public presence, and a real artistic achievement.
The Opera will return as an element of our massive collaboration with Laarna Cortaan, Last of MY Species… a not to be missed production opening September 5th. 2009. and then in the Fall as a ghastly hallows eve experience…
always more to come
